Community Mausoleum Closed for Earthquake Cleanup

All loved ones' remains are safe

Brentwood, MD – Fort Lincoln Cemetery’s community mausoleum sustained damage in today’s earthquake and will be closed for cleanup and repairs.

“The damage to the mausoleum is mostly broken marble and cracked windows,” Area Director of Operations Roger Volland said. “We are very grateful no one was hurt.”

The fronts of the mausoleum crypts are covered with marble. While the earthquake caused some of the decorative marble fronts to fall to the floor and break, the crypts remain securely sealed. “All loved ones’ remains are safe,” Volland explained.

“Safety is our top priority right now, which is why we cannot let anyone into the mausoleum,” Volland said. “We apologize for this inconvenience, and will do our best to perform clean up and repair so families can return as soon as possible.”

Volland said that once the debris is removed, he and his crew will be able to better assess the damage and create a complete list of crypt fronts that need repair. Families who would like to know if their loved ones’ crypt was affected can call Fort Lincoln Cemetery at (301) 864-5090.
